It’s no secret that New York City apartments often come with quirks, like a charmingly slanted living room floor or an adorable lack of closet space. One of my apartment’s many standout qualities includes a finicky radiator that, despite a near-constant series of hisses and pops beginning in early September, takes weeks to kick in during the winter months.

Now that I work from home, these autumn weeks of chilly weather without heat have become more noticeable than in years past. And sitting still at my kitchen table while working on a computer all day certainly doesn’t help warm me up. Fed up with cold fingers and icy toes, I did the only logical thing I could think of: I snuck into my roommate’s room while she was away to bring her portable space heater into the living room, and it has made a huge difference.

She has Honeywell’s portable ceramic space heater, and I’ve recently gained custody over it during the day. It’s a small device, but it heats up enough to keep me toasty while working in the living room. With 1500 watts of power, it doesn’t require much energy to operate, but it has the ability to slowly heat up an entire room. I typically prop it up on a chair right next to me for maximum warmth when I have the place to myself.

Not only does it heat up quickly and efficiently, but it also comes with plenty of safety features that make me comfortable using it for hours at a time. Its plastic exterior remains cool to the touch no matter how long it’s been running, it has non-slip rubber feet, and it turns off automatically when tipped over or picked up.

Additionally, the little space heater comes with a programmable thermostat with two heat settings, so I can decide how warm I want the temperature and how powerfully I want the air blowing on me. It definitely emits some white noise while operating, but it’s not too loud or distracting. Along with all of this, the device is also sleek and modern in design. It’s available in white and black models and has mid-century-inspired legs that give it a mod look.

My roommate and I aren’t the only ones who love this little space heater. It also has hundreds of fans on Amazon who appreciate its style and how much heat it produces despite its small size.

“She’s so cute,” one Amazon reviewer wrote. “I love the look, and it gives off a ton of heat.”

Another said, “I’m so glad I got this heater. It’s small and sleek, which is so rare for space heaters. I don’t mind leaving it out in plain sight… [and] it’s really surprisingly strong.”

If you’re in the market for a small, stylish space heater, you can order this one from Honeywell for $36 on Amazon today. Your fingers and toes will thank you.
